The Lindenwood men's soccer team closed out its 2014 regular season with a 2-1 win over the Southern Nazarene Crimson Storm on Saturday afternoon on the road.
It did not take the Lions long to get the on the scoreboard. Just four minutes into the game,
Alfredo Paez scored on a header after a pass from
Mitchell Hunt. The contest headed into the halftime break with the Lions leading 1-0.
Southern Nazarene then tied the score up 60
th minute after a free kick. With time ticking away
Andre Hayne broke the tie with his fifth goal of the season. Lindenwood then held on in the final minutes for the win.
The Lions dominated the first half with an 11-1 shot differential but the second half was all Crimson Storm. Southern Nazarene outshot the Lions 13-4.
With the win Lindenwood clinches the third seed in the MIAA Tournament. The Lions will face Fort Hays State in the opening round on Nov. 6 in Olathe, Kan.
Lindenwood finished the regular season with an overall record of 9-6-3 and a MIAA mark of 7-4-1.
