Lions Upended by Life University 18-15

Two weeks ago, men's rugby was on the short end of a 25-21 score against Life University on the road in Georgia.  Hoping for a different fate at home Saturday afternoon, the Lions again fell to the Running Eagles 18-15.

In what is becoming the rule rather than the exception each meeting, the two teams fought hard in a game that was close throughout.  Life put points on the board first with a penalty kick in the 26th minute, but Lindenwood answered to tie the contest at three.  Moments later, the Running Eagles scored a try to take the lead, but once again, the Lions answered.  Heading into halftime, the match was tied 8-8.

Early in the second half, Life put the ball in the zone and added the conversion for a 15-8 advantage.  That lead was stretched to 10 on a penalty conversion before Lindenwood crossed the line to make the score 18-15 in the 63rd minute.  With time running down, both teams battled for position with the Running Eagles continually trying to pin the Lions deep.  In the final seconds, Lindenwood drew a penalty and a chance to tie the game, but the kick went awry.

With the loss, the Lions fell to 7-4-1 overall and 1-2 in the Mid-South Conference.  After a weekend off, they travel to Denver, Colo., April 4 to face the Glendale Raptors.  The opening kickoff is scheduled for 3 p.m. at Infinity Park Stadium.
