Women’s Lacrosse Rolls Past Westminster

The No. 3 nationally ranked Lindenwood women's lacrosse team rolled past the Westminster Griffins 17-1 on Tuesday evening from Hunter Stadium in St. Charles, Mo.

Hannah Doughty opened the scoring attack for the Lady Lions 48 seconds into the first-half of play, taking a feed from Jordyn Constance and sending it into the back of the cage. Amanda Schimpke and Rachel Benzing would team up for the next three Lindenwood scores, with Schimpke scoring twice and Benzing once, growing the Lady Lion lead to 4-0. Lindenwood would net eight more goals during the first half of play, receiving goals from Maddi Ossello, Jenna Battaglini, Morgan Judd, Allison Hurley, Cassie Stucklen, and Ellie Bockstie. Eleven different Lady Lions tallied points in the opening 30 minutes of play, as Lindenwood entered halftime with a 12-0 lead.

Rachel Ortell made the start in goal for Lindenwood, making four saves during the first half of play. Delaney Solomon began the second half in goal for the Lady Lions, relieving Ortell. Solomon turned in two saves during the second half, allowing one goal against. Lindenwood outscored Westminster 5-1 over the final 30 minutes, as the game ended with a final score of 17-1.   

The Lady Lions held the edge in shots (36-9), ground balls (14-7), and draw controls (14-6). Lindenwood was 13-16 on its clear attempts, while Westminster was 6-9. Hurley ended the game with a team-high five points, including one goal and four assists. Schimpke led the way for the Lady Lions with four goals, including the game-winning score. On the defensive end of the field, five Lady Lions were responsible for caused turnovers.

Following the 17-1 victory, the Lady Lions improve their record to 5-0 and 2-0 in conference play. In defeat, the Griffins move their season record to 1-2 and 1-1 from within the RMAC. Lindenwood will begin a two-game road trip through the state of Pennsylvania beginning on Friday with a matchup versus the No. 15 ranked Seton Hill Griffins. The non-conference matchup is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. EST from Dick's Sporting Goods Field in Greensburg, Pa.
