Baseball Falls in Final Inning

The Lindenwood baseball team lost 5-4 after late push by Missouri S&T on Wednesday afternoon in Rolla, Mo.

Wes Degener opened up the scoring with a run scored in the top of the first after Drew Quinones hit a sacrifice fly.  Missouri S&T tied the game in the bottom of the second with the help of two hits, but the Miners also stranded three runners.  Nick Paulda gave the Lions the lead again in the top of the third after he singled earlier in the inning.

Lindenwood extended its lead after Degener scored on a wild pitch, and Jake Cooper scored on a sacrifice fly by Rayce Singbush.  The Lions held a 4-1 lead heading into the bottom of the eighth, but a costly error to start the inning allowed the Miners to score two-unearned runs to pull within one.  Missouri S&T tied the game in the bottom of the ninth after a stolen base led to a run, and a single drove in a run to end the game 5-4.

Jevon Boyd threw four innings, allowed just one run on two hits, and struck out two batters.  Lucas Tibbs tossed four innings of his own, allowed two runs, both unearned, and struck out one.  Degener led the team with three hits and two runs scored.

Lindenwood falls to 17-23 on the season after the non-conference loss.  The Lions will return to the Lou Brock Sports Complex on Friday to host Emporia State in a three-game set that begins at 6 p.m. in St. Charles, Mo.
