Schindler Ties Season-High Of 16 Kills In Four-Set Loss At Quincy

The freshman has recorded double-digit kills in six of seven matches this season.

The Lindenwood men's volleyball team fell to Quincy in four sets Saturday night. The Lions secured the first frame before dropping three-consecutive sets in Quincy, Ill.

Freshman Sam Schindler led the team with 16 kills, matching a season-high he set on January 7 against Saint Francis. The Centerville, Ohio native hit .367 on 30 attacks, while also tallying a pair of service aces and one dig.

Adam Brewster continued his success, assisting on 37 kills for the second match in a row, and at least 35 for three consecutive contests. Joseph Mayer had seven assists, while Ryan Vorderer had three. Head coach Kris Dorn praised the passing, but felt the team failed to take advantage of putting it away consistently.

"We waited until they might give us an error instead of earning [the point]," Dorn said.

Vorderer led the way with 14 digs, marking a season-high for the junior, while Ryan Moore had six. Nathan Van Dellen also had six, while Brewster (7) and Blake Koppel (2) combined for nine.

The Lions only accumulated five blocks as a team, with Karsten Staples having three assisted. "We didn't stick to our defensive movements from our block or from the floor," Dorn continued.

"We didn't focus long enough to make a dent."

Lindenwood hit .355 as a team in the first-set victory, but only attacked at a rate of .226, .172, and .143 in the final three frames, respectively.

The loss sends the Lions to 0-7 to begin the season, and 0-4 in MIVA action. Lindenwood will finish out the last two matches of six straight on the road next Friday and Saturday when it travels to MIVA rivals Loyola and Lewis.
