After dropping a pair of five-set matches yesterday, the Lindenwood men's volleyball team lost another, 3-2, to Saint Francis on Saturday afternoon in Riverside, Calif. at the California Baptist Tournament.
After hitting .160 and .172, respectively, in sets one and two to get down 2-0, the Lions lessened the errors and hit .208 in the third set to not go silently. Lindenwood hit .370 as a team in the fourth set to win, 25-15, before forcing extra points in the fifth to lose, 16-14.
Ryan Moore and
Sam Schindler were integral in forcing the fifth set. The two combined for 36 of the team's 53 kills, while Moore also recorded nine digs to total 23.5 points. Schindler hit .538 while only committing two attacking errors.
Joseph Mayer saw most of the action as the setter, accumulating 39 assists, while
Adam Brewster had seven.
The fourth set was Moore and Schindler's best, tallying six and five kills, respectively. In the fifth, Lindenwood held a couple early leads, but forced ties as late as 14-14. Moore recorded his 20th kill to even the set, but Saint Francis rallied off consecutive points to negate the Lions' comeback.
After committing a combined 52 service errors yesterday in the team's two matches, Lindenwood limited the mistakes to 18 from the line. Besides Moore and Schindler totaling 20+ points apiece,
Connor Hipelius and
Jake Duckworth each had eight, while
Nathan Van Dellen had seven, and
Michael Chard and Brewster had one apiece to equal 69 points as a team.
With another five-set loss, Lindenwood falls to 0-3 on the season. The Lions will look to get into the win column next Friday from Hyland Arena when they host Grand View at 7 p.m.
