The Lindenwood men's volleyball team fell to Missouri Baptist on Thursday night in Hyland Arena in four sets.
The first two sets were decided by two points each. The visiting Spartans came back late to take the first set in extras, 26-24, before the Lions held on to win the second frame, 25-23. Missouri Baptist controlled the final two sets to win 25-17 and 25-18, respectively.
Head coach
Kris Dorn is refusing to settle, and needs his team to start adjusting to feedback rather than make excuses.
"We have allowed ourselves to be a team that looks for excuses instead of taking responsibility," Dorn said Thursday night. "Until we slay that dragon, we will continue to get results like we have been."
The Lions only hit .114 as a team on the night, but
Jake Duckworth attacked at .233 clip with a team-high 13 kills. The senior was dominating through two sets, as he already had 11 kills at a .381 attacking rate, but consecutive errors in the third frame sent him off. The St. Louis native surpassed 100 kills on the season with his total, surpassing the century mark for the third-consecutive season.
Joseph Mayer and
Adam Brewster combined for 44 assists on the night for the team's 48 kills. Mayer also totaled three digs, while the sophomore Brewster had one.
Ryan Vorderer matched a season-high 14 digs for the third time this season, and marking the fifth time he has been in double-digits in 2017. Freshman
Sam Schindler recorded a team-high two blocks, including one solo.
Rob Chatterton led the team with a .250 hitting percentage, while also accumulating six kills.
Blake Koppel chipped in with nine kills against the Spartans.
"This is a team game," Dorn continued. "Each of us needs to make adjustments for the sake of the team."
The loss sends Lindenwood to 0-10 on the season as it continues the break from MIVA action with another non-conference opponent coming to St. Charles next Wednesday. The match against No. 5 Hawai'i is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. from Hyland Arena.
