The No. 2 Lindenwood women's lacrosse team took down the No. 16 Grand Valley State Lakers by a final score of 14-6 on Thursday afternoon from Allendale, Mich.
Allison Hurley led the way for the Lady Lions, posting a career-high eight points in the non-conference road victory.
Lindenwood rattled off the first three scores of the afternoon, building itself a three-goal lead after 4:32 of play.
Allison Hurley opened the scoring for the Lady Lions with an unassisted score at the 27:01 mark of the opening half.
Rachel Benzing followed with a free-position score 54 seconds later for Lindenwood's second score of the half, before Buelow had the final Lady Lion goal during the three-score stretch.
Grand Valley responded, scoring three-consecutive goals to draw even with Lindenwood at 3-3 with just under 20 minutes to play in the first half.
The Lady Lions would outscore the Lakers by a 7-1 margin over the remainder of the first half, to take a 10-4 lead into halftime. Hurley would find the back of the cage three more times for Lindenwood during its scoring run. Buelow would tally two scores for the Lady Lions, while
Carly Fedorowski and
Sarah Cromer would each score once.
As the game moved to the second half,
Morgan Judd netted the first score of the frame to help Lindenwood extend its lead to 11-4. The Lakers would score the next two goals, bringing the score to 11-6 in favor of the Lady Lions.
Lindenwood would hold Grand Valley scoreless for the duration of the game, while tacking on three additional goals, moving the score to its final mark of 14-6 in favor of the Lady Lions.
Remi Larson,
Erin Abbott, and Hurley had the final three scores for Lindenwood.
Rachel Ortell won her sixth game of the season in the cage for the Lady Lions. Ortell turned in 10 saves, including seven during the first half of play.
Maria Johnson secured a team-leading four draw controls for Lindenwood, while also pacing the team with four groundballs.
Abbott had a team-high two caused turnovers, while
Molly Beckham and
Savannah Phillips each caused one turnover on defense for the Lady Lions.
Following its victory, Lindenwood improves to 9-0 this season. With the loss, Grand Valley moves to 1-5. The Lady Lions will return home on March 26 for the team's second doubleheader of the week. Lindenwood will play host to CSU-Pueblo at 12:00 p.m., before taking on Indianapolis at 5:00 p.m.
