Balanced Attack Sends Women’s Lacrosse to 21-7 Victory

The No. 3 Lindenwood women's lacrosse team recorded a 21-7 victory over the Westminster Griffins on Sunday afternoon from Hunter Stadium in St. Charles, Mo. Lindenwood had four separate scorers tally at least six points in the team's 10th-consecutive win to begin the season.

Lindenwood and Westminster traded goals over the first 14 minutes of action, with Lindenwood holding a narrow 4-3 lead around the halfway point of the frame.

Sophie Buelow netted a free-position goal with 13:46 remaining in the half, sending the Lions ahead by a score of 5-3. Buelow's goal sparked a stretch of eight-consecutive goals for Lindenwood, and the team took a commanding 12-3 lead with just over three minutes left in the opening frame.

Westminster scored once more before the end of the half, but Lindenwood entered the break with a 12-4 advantage.

The Lions outscored the Griffins by a 9-3 margin during the second half, including six of the final seven scores, to push the game to its final count of 21-7.

Rachel Ortell earned the win in goal for the Lions, her 10th of the season. Ortell stopped two of the six shots she faced in goal for Lindenwood, and was relieved at halftime by Aly Smith. Smith made one save in her 30 minutes of action.

Lindenwood's Hannah Doughty had the best single-game offensive performance of her career, posting career best marks in points (8) and goals (6). Doughty was one of four Lions with at least six points in the game, joined by Allison Hurley, Carly Fedorowski, and Buelow. Buelow and Fedorowski each had four goals and two assists, while Hurley had three goals and three assists. Hurley's six-point performance raised her career total to 204 points, making her just the second Lion in program history to eclipse the 200-point plateau.

Lindenwood received single-goal efforts from Ellie Faulk, Garland Fiser, Cassie Stucklen, and Emma Wildhart.

Shannon Modl equaled a career-high with a team-leading eight draw controls. Modl also caused a team-high five turnovers. Alana Jeronimo and Fedorowski both collected four ground balls to lead the team.

With its win, Lindenwood improves to 10-0 and 5-0 from inside the RMAC. The Lions will return to action on March 25 in Lebanon, Ill. for a 12:00 p.m. matchup with No. 23 McKendree.
