Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men's Basketball Stifled in Road Loss to UIndy

The Lindenwood men's basketball team dropped its third game in a row on Thursday evening, after falling to the Greyhounds of Indianapolis, by a score of 79-67. The loss marks the Lions' sixth of the season, bringing them to 8-6 on the year, and gives them a 2-4 record within the GLVC.

GAME OVERVIEW
The two teams went back and forth for the first 11 minutes of the game, as Indianapolis held onto a one-point lead at the 14-minute mark. After trailing by as much as six points midway through the first half, the Lions would go on a 9-2 scoring run to regain the lead, which they held throughout the rest of the half.

Lindenwood shot 48.3 percent from the field in the first half, while Indianapolis shot 40.6 percent from the field. Both teams struggled from deep in the first half, with the Lions hitting on just four of their 12 three-point attempts, and the Greyhounds shooting 25.0 on their 12 three-point attempts.

Lindenwood was stymied early in the second half and trailed, 47-40, before going on a 7-0 run to tie the game up at 47-47. The Lions were unable to recapture the lead, and shot just 34.5 percent from the field and 28.6 from behind the arc in the second half. Lindenwood was perfect from the free throw line in the second half, as the team sunk all eight free throw attempts.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • TJ Crockett led Lindenwood with 18 points for his 12th double-digit scoring output of the season.
  • Vijay Blackmon also contributed 15 points for the Lions, while connecting on two three-point shots and shooting 87.5 percent from the free throw line.
  • To go along with his 15 points, Blackmon brought in four rebounds and dished out a season-high five assists to teammates.
  • Lindenwood was held to under 70 points in a game for the third time this season. The team has lost all three games that they have failed to reach the 70-point plateau.

QUOTEABLE
"I thought we showed better focus and toughness than the last time out," said Head Coach Kyle Gerdeman. "It is important for us as we move forward in GLVC play. We made a couple of defensive mistakes in the second half that UIndy made us pay for, and that is how quick things can change on the road in this league."

UP NEXT
Lindenwood returns home to face No. 1 Bellarmine on Saturday, Jan. 18. The game will tip off at 3:00 p.m. in the Hyland Arena. The Lions lost the first meeting between the two teams earlier in the season, 81-73.
