The Lindenwood men's basketball team (5-2, 1-1 GLVC) dropped Quincy (4-3, 0-1 GLVC) in overtime by a score of 91-87 on Thursday night from Hyland Arena in St. Charles, Mo.
GAME OVERVIEW
The two teams put up very similar shooting numbers in what was a back-and-forth opening half. The Hawks shot 48 percent from the field, while Lindenwood finished the first 20 minutes at 43 percent shooting, The score was 19-17 in favor of the Hawks at the 10:01 mark of the opening half, as Quincy rattled off the next five points to take its largest lead of the game at 24-17 at the 8:51 mark. Quincy would lead 34-27 at the break. The Lions knocked down four threes in the opening half, as Kevin Caldwell led the way with nine points.
The Lions started the second half on an 18-7 run to take a 45-41 lead at the 14:29 mark of the second half. 11 of those points were poured in by
Jacoby Ross. Quincy stormed back to take a 58-53 lead with just under 10 minutes to play in the half. The Hawks maintained a comfortable lead as it ballooned to 71-60 at the 5:34 mark of the second half. The Lions responded with a quick 8-0 run to cut the deficit to three with 2:30 to go. Lindenwood was able to tie the game late as
Romelo Burrell and
Brandon Trimble came up clutch from the free throw line, helping the game go to overtime.
In the extra session the Lions took an 82-80 lead as Ross knocked down a three at the 2:50 mark of OT. Lindenwood sealed the victory, knocking down six-consecutive free throws, including a pair from Kevin Caldwell in the extra session, as the Lions picked up a 9-87 victory.
