Canty Leads No. 2 Baseball to Doubleheader Sweep

The No. 2 Lindenwood baseball team (14-2, 10-2 GLVC) swept Lewis (14-10, 12-8 GLVC) in Sunday's doubleheader to split the season series.  The Lions won by scores of 13-5 and 16-5, respectively at Lou Brock Sports Complex in St. Charles, Mo.

GAME ONE OVERVIEW
After losing the first two games of the series with Lewis, the Lindenwood offense made a statement which began in the first inning on Sunday.  The Lions drew back-to-back walks before Mitchell Krebs drove in the first run of the game.  Bryce Beckmann added a run in the next at bat, while Calvin Nowak registered an RBI of his own one batter later.  Beckmann swiped third base and was able to score on a throwing error by the catcher before Alex Canty poked an RBI double down the right field line.  Lewis scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the first, making it a 5-2 ballgame after just one inning.

In the second inning, Beckmann registered an RBI on a fielder's choice, as he was followed by a sacrifice fly for Calvin Nowak.  Canty hit the gap again for a double, and crossed the plate to increase the lead to 8-2 after three innings.  The Flyers got one run back in the fourth inning and another in the sixth inning, but the Lions poured on the runs in the top of the seventh.  Canty registered his third double of the game, which scored a pair of runs.  The third double by Canty was the most in one game since Wes Degener did so in the 2016 season.  Lindenwood scored two runs on a wild pitches before Krebs capped off the scoring with two-out RBI.

GAME TWO OVERVIEW
Tyler Cassmeyer pitched a strong game to close out the series, as he allowed just two hits through six innings.  Sam Kissane brought in the first run in the second inning on a sacrifice bunt.  Canty tallied yet another double, bringing in Beau Collier for the 2-0 lead.  The bats were quiet for both teams until the Lions got hot again in the sixth inning.  Nowak drove in a run in a run on a single, and later scored on a two-out single by Kissane to put the Lions ahead by four runs.

Beckmann drove in a run on a single, before Collier tallied two RBI to increase the Lindenwood lead.  Canty posted his fifth RBI on the day with a single, while Jack Lochner added two more runs on a pinch-hit single up the middle.  Kolby Schulte hammered a two-RBI double, as he was followed by an RBI double by Krebs, making it a nine-run inning and a 13-0 Lindenwood lead.  Lewis kept the game going with four runs in the bottom half of the seventh, but Collier put the lead back to 10 runs with his solo blast to left field in the eighth inning.  The Flyers scored a run in the bottom of the eight, but the Lions were locked in at the plate as Kissane tallied a two-RBI triple to cap off a 16-5 win in the final game of the series.
