No. 10 Baseball Splits Doubleheader on Sunday

The No. 10 Lindenwood baseball team (23-5, 19-5 GLVC) split its doubleheader with Southern Indiana (20-16, 16-12 GLVC) on Sunday at Lou Brock Sports Complex in St. Charles, Mo.  The Lions lost their first home game since May 5, 2019 by a 9-4 final in game one, but bounced back for a 9-3 win in the second game.
 
GAME ONE OVERVIEW
Southern Indiana jumped out to a 4-0 lead after the top of the first inning, but the Lions got two runs back in the bottom half.  Bryce Beckmann drove in a run on a double down the left field line, and later scored to cut the deficit to 4-2.  The Screaming Eagles put up two more runs in the top of the second, building its lead back up to four runs.
 
The Lions clawed back again in the bottom of the third inning, as the first run was scored on a single by Mitchell KrebsCalvin Nowak drove in the second run on a sacrifice fly, making it a 6-4 ballgame.  Lindenwood surrendered three runs on three hits and one error in the top of the seventh, as the Lions fell 9-4 in game one.

GAME TWO OVERVIEW
The Lions fell behind again in the second game, as Southern Indiana took a 1-0 lead after the second inning.  Kolby Schulte came through big with a two-RBI single to right field, giving Lindenwood a 2-1 advantage.  Nowak drew a bases-loaded walk to bring in the third run of the inning to make it a two-run lead for the Lions.
 
Lindenwood registered a big inning in the bottom of the fourth, which included four-consecutive hits to start the inning.  Jayce Maag drove in the first run of the inning, before the Lions took the free runs.  Schulte was hit by a pitch with bases loaded, and Beckmann drew a walk with the bags full to bring in two more runs.  Nowak again compiled an RBI on a bases-loaded walk, and Jack Lochner drove in a pair of runs on a single.  The Lions held a 9-1 lead after four innings, and secured the 9-3 victory to cap off the series.
