Game Recap: Baseball |

Baseball Wins One on Friday, Advances to Saturday in NCAA Regional

The Lindenwood baseball team (34-8) picked up one win on Friday to advance to the next day of the NCAA Division II Midwest Regional at Lou Brock Sports Complex in St. Charles, Mo.  The Lions earned a 6-2 win over Davenport (30-15) in the first game, before falling 7-4 to Trevecca (34-10) in game two.

GAME ONE OVERVIEW
The Lions jumped on the board in the top of the second after Jayce Maag drove in Alex Canty.  Lindenwood surrendered a two-run homer in the bottom of the second to fall behind 2-0, but that was the last time the Panthers crossed the plate.  Austin Schmitt belted a two-run home run to put Lindenwood in front 3-2 in the fifth inning.  Kolby Schulte extended the lead in the top of the sixth with a solo shot to left field.

Canty hammered the ball off the centerfield wall to leg out a triple, as he drove in Bryce Beckmann in the process.  Canty was active at third base to force a balk call on the Davenport pitcher, increasing the lead to 6-2.  Blake Beckmann surrendered just one earned run in his 6.0 innings of work, as he compiled five strikeouts.  Justin Taylor shut down Davenport for the final three innings, as he tallied three strikeouts and allowed just a pair of hits.

GAME TWO OVERVIEW
Lindenwood had quality pitching from Tyler Cassmeyer in the early portion of the game.  The Lions jumped on the board in the third inning, after an infield single by Beckmann to make it a 1-0 lead.  After a double by Schulte, Beckmann drove in the second run of the game on a double of his own in the fifth inning.  Canty responded with a double on the next at bat, as he drove in Beckmann in the process.  Maag reached on a single, and later got in a run down which allowed Canty to score the third run of the inning.

Trevecca responded with five runs in the top of the sixth inning to take a 5-4 lead.  The big inning took the air out of the Lindenwood offense, as the Trojans picked up two more runs in the top of the ninth to earn a 7-4 win.
