Men's ACHA Division II ice hockey edged Davenport University 4-3 Friday night at the Centene Community Ice Center in Maryland Heights, Missouri.
The Lions looked like they would make quick work of the Panthers after taking a two-goal lead midway through the opening period.
Ryan Granville netted the first with help from
Steve Avalone at 6:26 and
Josh Linn sounded the horn at 9:36 on a play set up by
Stanley Lucas and
Jacob Behnen. Lindenwood held that advantage into the second, but Davenport answered with back-to-back scores just 35-seconds apart to tie the game at 2-2.
The Lions regained the advantage when Linn split the pipes with his second of the game and eighth of the season at 15:27, assisted by Lucas and
Bradley Rupp. Lindenwood made it 4-2 just 56-seconds into the third period. It came off the blade of
Michael Mullen after
Chase McClellan and
Declan Carter created the chance. The Panthers cut that lead in half at the 2:34 mark, but that was the last goal of the contest for either team giving the Lions the one-goal victory.
Lindenwood outshot Davenport 48-17 and Errico stopped 14 of the 17 pucks he faced to earn the victory in goal for the Lions. Only two penalties were called in the game and both teams went 0/1 on the power play.
With the win, Lindenwood improved to 10-4-0 overall. The Lions will go for the sweep Saturday night with the opening faceoff set for 6:20 p.m. at the Centene Community Ice Center.
