Men's Basketball Drops First Game of GLVC Tournament

The Lindenwood men's basketball team (12-17) lost 89-77 to William Jewell (14-14) on Monday in the first round of the GLVC Championship Tournament in Liberty, Mo.

GAME OVERVIEW
William Jewell jumped out to a commanding 13-point lead in the first six minute of the game, as the Lions got off to a slow start.  Romelo Burrell cut the game to 33-25 at the 4:30 mark after knocking down a three-point bucket.  Kevin Caldwell Jr. made it a five-point game near the two minute mark, but the Cardinals held a 38-30 lead at the break.

The Lions fell behind by double-digit again to start the second half, but a Jacoby Ross hit a three pointer at the 16:09 mark to cut the deficit to seven points.  Less than 30 seconds later, Burrell threw down a dunk to make it a 43-38 ballgame with plenty of time on the clock.  Lindenwood struggled to keep pace with the Cardinals efficient offense, as William Jewell went on to win 89-77.

The Lions hit 57.1 percent of their shots in the second half, including 6-of-11 from three.  William Jewell kept its distance by making 5-of-7 from deep to hang on for the win.  Burrell led all scorers with his 24 points, as Ross dropped 22 points in the game.

QUOTABLE
"I hate to see the season come to an end for this team," said head coach Kyle Gerdeman.  "I thought we had been playing really well, and extremely hard for the last few weeks.  This group fought back from a tough stretch during the season, came together as a group, and maxed out their ability.  That's about all I can ask for as a coach."
