Men's ACHA Division II hockey earned a 5-0 shutout victory over Concordia University (Wisc.) in the season opener Friday night at the Centene Community Ice Center in Maryland Heights, Missouri.
Declan Carter scored the first goal for the Lions at 10:51 off a rebound from an
Adam Rischbieter shot set up by
Chase McClellan. Lindenwood made it 2-0 when
Jacob Behnen connected on a stretch pass back to
Sean McMahon with 68-seconds remaining in the first.
Carter scored his second goal of the game in the second period off a great pass from
Jack Radley and
Josh Linn for a 3-0 Lions advantage, and then Radley made it 4-0 on a one-timer set up by
RJ Hart and
Steve Avalone with 14:05 remaining in the third. The final goal of the night came off a spectacular feed from McClellan to Sean Wager. Linn earned the second assist on the play.
Ethan Paulin-Hatch was a rock in goal for Lindenwood, earning the win by stopping all 30 shot he faced.
The Lions will go for the series sweep when they host the Falcons once again Saturday night. The puck drops at 7:50 p.m. at the Centene Community Ice Center.
