After beginning the season with a shutout Friday night, men's ACHA DII hockey earned a series sweep with a 3-1 win over Concordia (Wisc.) Saturday night at the Centene Community Ice Center in Maryland Heights, Missouri.
The opening 10-minutes of the game went scoreless and it looked like the Falcons might have momentum with a power play, but the Lions turned the tables when
Praveen Dhaliwal and
Jacob Behnen set up
Michael Mullen for a short-handed effort with 9:51 in the first. Lindenwood drew a penalty and went to the man advantage with just under five minutes remaining in the period. It took 30-seconds for the Lions to score their first power play goal of the year.
Josh Linn blasted a one-timer with help from Mullen and
Sean McMahon at the 15:45 mark to give Lindenwood a 2-0 lead.
That advantage extended to 3-0 with 11:52 remaining in the second when
Bradley Rupp jumped into the offensive rush and tipped home a
Sean Wagner pass with
Bryce Leger earning the secondary assist. As the period ended, Lions goaltender
Ethan Paulin-Hatch reached 100 straight minutes of shutout hockey to open the season. His streak ended at 116:33 when Concordia scored on a three-on-one break with 4:27 left in regulation.
Lindenwood outshot the Falcons 29-28 and Paulin-Hatch stopped 27 of the 28 shots he faced to earn his second straight victory as the Lions improved to 2-0 in the new season.
After a weekend off, men's ACHA DII hockey travels to Angola, Indiana for a two-game set against Trine University October 7-8. The puck drops at 7 p.m. for the series opener that Friday night and at 3 p.m. Saturday afternoon at the Thunder Ice Arena.
