Men's ACHA Division II ice hockey shutout Davenport 6-0 Saturday afternoon in the Lindenwood Winter Classic by JOG at the Centene Community Ice Center in Maryland Heights, Missouri. The Lions scored two goals early in the first to take a comfortable lead, then put the game away with four more goals in the final frame.
Jack Radley scored what proved to be the game-winner just 93-seconds into the contest off a feed from
RJ Hart and
Josh Linn, and then
Chase McClellan sounded the horn at the 3:47 mark with help from
Declan Carter and
Jacob Behnen.
While the opening minutes were defined by Lindenwood offense, the next 40 minutes were characterized by good defense and goaltending from the Panthers. Despite a barrage of shots, the Lions went the rest of the first period, the entire second period, and the first few minutes of the third without a score, but when the dam broke, goals came quickly and often.
Praveen Dhaliwal was the first to hit the back of the net on a play set up by
Nolan Kahl and
Michael Mullen at 4:16.
Sean Wagner was next up at 9:25, assisted by
Bryce Leger and
Bradley Rupp, then
Eli Roofe scored 90-seconds later with help from Carter and
Sean McMahon. Those two also earned the assists on the final goal of the game off the blade
Ryan Granville at 16:42.
Lindenwood outshot Davenport 53-16 and
Ethan Paulin-Hatch stopped all 16 pucks he faced to earn the shutout victory in goal.
With the win, the Lions improved to 17-4-0 overall and wrap up the Lindenwood Winter Classic with three straight victories. The Lions also extended their season-high winning streak to 10 games and stretched a winning streak against the Panthers to 14 straight, dating back to November 2017.
Lindenwood wraps up a 10-game home stand with a two-game series against Maryville January 14-15. The puck drops at 7 p.m. Saturday and at 2:10 p.m. Sunday at the Centene Community Ice Center.
