Baseball Bested by Alabama State on Saturday

MONTGOMERY, Ala. --The Lindenwood baseball team (2-14) lost both games of Saturday's doubleheader to Alabama State (10-8) by scores of 4-3 and 9-2, respectively.

GAME 1 | Alabama State 4, Lindenwood 3
Sophomore Eli Brown (0-3) started and took the loss on the mound for Lindenwood. Senior Brody Roach was a bright spot out of the bullpen, going 2.1 shutout innings while allowing one hit, walking none and striking out two.

In the batter's box, the Lions were paced by junior Ethan Abercrombie, who went 1-for-3 on the day with a home run, a walk and an RBI. Junior Tyson Ludwig put together a standout effort as well, going 1-for-2 with three walks. Sophomore Marcus Heusohn also contributed for Lindenwood, putting together two hits in four trips to the plate while adding a walk.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Trailing 4-0, the Lions first put runs on the board in the fourth inning. Junior Brett Bowers came across to score the lone run of the inning for Lindenwood and get them on the board.

The Lions kept the Hornets off the board before narrowing the gap further in the eighth. Lindenwood picked up a run on Abercrombie's leadoff home run off of freshman Shadai Colon, which brought the score to 4-2 in favor of the Hornets.

Lindenwood held the Hornets off the board before narrowing the gap to 4-3 in the ninth. The ballgame ended with that ninth inning rally falling short.

GAME NOTES

Freshman Michael Walsh (0-1) got the ball to start for Lindenwood and took the loss. Sophomore Graham Breite was a bright spot for the Lions, coming out of the bullpen and throwing one scoreless inning, allowing no hits, with no walks and two strikeouts.

Abercrombie led the way offensively for the Lions, going 1-for-3 in the ballgame with a double and two RBI. Junior Anthony Stellato put together a standout performance at the plate as well, going 2-for-3 with a double.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Trailing 8-0, the Lions first put runs on the board in the seventh inning. Lindenwood scored twice on a two-run double off the bat of Abercrombie. The Lions were unable to get any closer, as Alabama State added one run to their tally on the way to a 9-2 final.
