ST. CHARLES, Mo. --The Lindenwood baseball team (10-41, 6-15 OVC) lost the final game of the weekend series to Eastern Illinois (29-18, 10-11 OVC) by a margin of 16-6 on Saturday at Lou Brock Sports Complex in St. Charles, Mo.Â
Senior Joe Copeland led the way offensively for the Lions, going 2-for-3 in the ballgame with a home run, a walk and two RBI. Junior Colin Shea put together a noteworthy performance as well, going 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Sophomore Marcus Heusohn also chipped in, going 1-for-3 for Lindenwood with a double and an RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Lions were trailing 5-0 in the second inning when they first put runs on the board. Lindenwood put together a three-run frame, culminating in a run-scoring single from Copeland.
The Panthers expanded their lead to 9-3 before the Lions offense got back to work, cutting into that lead in the fifth. Lindenwood picked up a run on Copeland's one-out solo home run off of junior Jonathon Hanscom, which brought the score to 9-4 in favor of the Panthers.
Lindenwood held the Panthers off the board before narrowing the gap to 9-6 in the sixth. The Lions were unable to get any closer, as Eastern Illinois added seven runs to their tally on the way to a 16-6 final.
