Men's Volleyball Drops MIVA Opener to #14 Lewis

The Lindenwood men's volleyball team (2-5, 0-1 MIVA) fell in its conference opener to #14 Lewis (6-3, 1-0 MIVA), 3-1 on Wednesday night in Hyland Arena.

MATCH OVERVIEW
The Lions jumped out to a quick 5-0 lead, capped off by a Clay Wieter kill, which forced a Lewis timeout. Lindenwood continued to maintain a comfortable lead, maintaining a 15-9 advantage at the media. With the score 21-12 later in the set, Lewis went on a 6-1 run to pull back within four at 22-18. The Flayers kept battling, but Lindenwood was able to close out the set at 25-22 and take a 1-0 lead in the match. Wieter led the way with seven kills in the opening stanza.

Once again, Lindenwood got off to a quick start in the second and led 10-5 after a kill from Ian Schuller. The Lions maintained a slim lead throughout, holding the advantage at 15-12. At this point, Lewis built some momentum and finished the second on a 10-2 run, taking the set at 25-17 and tying the match 1-1.

In the third, Lewis grabbed an early 8-3 lead. The Lions were able to pull the score closer after back-to-back kills from A.J. Lewis and Rashawn Bonner that made the score 14-12 in favor of the Flyers. The two teams continued to trade points during the stanza, but the early advantage was enough for the visitors to hang onto the set at 25-20.

After trailing 6-3 early in the fourth, Lindenwood rattled off four-straight points to grab a 7-6 lead. Lewis settled back down and was able to take a 15-11 lead into the media. The Lions were unable to draw much closer in the set as they dropped it 25-17 and the match 3-1.
