The Lindenwood men's ACHA division II ice hockey team defeated the Maryville Saints Saturday afternoon by the score of 6-0 at Centene Community Ice Center in Maryland Heights, Missouri. The Lions high powered offense was on display again on Saturday as they were able to secure their seventh consecutive victory and improve their overall record to 21-2.
It did not take the Lions very long to get on the scoresheet in this contest. Lindenwood made it 1-0 at 1:40 when
Gage Vierzba and
Nolan Kahl set up
Jacob Behnen for his second goal of the season. At 4:02, forward
Austin Meers made it 2-0 when he scored his 10
th goal of the year thanks to assists by
Nick Jones and
Chase McClellan.
Jack Louko added an unassisted goal- his ninth- at 11:13 to make it 3-0 Lions after the first period. The Lions dominated in offensive zone time in the first period and it was reflected by the 15-2 shot totals by both clubs.
There were no tallies in the second period, but Meers made it 4-0 just 45 seconds into the third period with a goal set up by
Michael Mullen and
Zachary Schwartz. An unconventional play at 10:08 led to
Trent Sylvester scoring his sixth goal of the season thanks to
Ethan Christofferson and Lions netminder
Cade Kujawski who now has two assists on the year.
Nick Jones added a goal late- his second of the game and 20
th on the season- at 17:10 to make it 6-0 Lions.
Austin Meers recorded his third point of the game by assisting Jones on his goal.
One goal was all goaltender
Cade Kujawski needed as he stopped all 15 Saints shots he faced. The Lions tallied 41 shots on goal, but
Jacob Behnen's was the game winner just 1:40 into the game. The Lions will have a near month long break for the holiday's before returning to action on January 10, 2025 when they take on the Liberty Flames at LaHaye Ice Center in Lynchburg, Virginia.
