GAME OVERVIEW
The Lions jumped on Morehead State early scoring five runs in the first inning. After a
Kam Edwards single, Dawson Houf brought him home with a double to center.
Bryson Arnette kept the line moving with a bomb to left center, giving Lindenwood a 3-0 lead just four batters into the game. The Lions took advantage of a couple errors to push two more runs across and went up 5-0 after a half inning.
Morehead State put the pressure on immediately in the bottom half of the inning, loading the bases with no one out. However,
Josh Newell induced a big double play to limit the damage to just one run as Lindenwood was up 5-1 after an inning of play.
The Lions got that run back right away after
Colin Shea led off the second with a homer, making the score 6-1. The Golden Eagles answered back with two runs in the bottom of the third, cutting the deficit to 6-3. In the top of the fourth,
Kam Edwards homered for the second time in the series, moving the score to 7-3. It was Edwards third knock of the day. Morehead State plated two in the bottom half, as the score was 7-5 after four innings. Morehead State kept chipping away with one in the fifth, edging closer at 7-6.
Lindenwood regained some separation with three-straight hits to begin the sixth, two of which left the yard. Shea led off with a single and was brought home by Edwards second long ball of the day, putting Lindenwood ahead 9-6. Hokuf went back-to-back with Edwards as Lindenwood went ahead 10-6. The first five Lindenwood batters reached base in the inning and the Lions would bring home two more in the frame.
Ambrose Russo doubled, bringing home
Filip Sarota and the Lions pushed one more across on an error later in the frame.
Edwards drove in his fourth run of the day on a sacrifice fly in the seventh that brought in Shea, pushing the lead to 13-6. The Golden Eagles wouldn't go away, hitting two homers in the bottom half of the inning, getting within five at 13-8. Morehead State battled all the way back with five runs in the eighth to tie things up at 13 apiece.
The Lions put two runners on in the top of the ninth but were unable to score. After shutting down Morehead State, this game headed to extras. The Golden Eagles scored the game-winning run in the tenth to outlast Lindenwood 14-13.
