Student-Athletes Celebrated at Annual SLS ROARS Awards

Several hundred student-athletes, coaches, and administrative staff celebrated high academic and athletic achievement at the annual SLS ROARS Awards Tuesday evening at Hyland Arena in St. Charles, Missouri.

Festivities began with the distribution of athletic stoles team by team for SLS students that are graduating this spring. After everyone with a 3.5 cumulative GPA or higher was honored (see complete list below), there were 13 different ROARS Awards that were announced. A description for each award is included below.

Best in a Supporting Role – Female
Presented to a dedicated student-athlete whose unwavering commitment, teamwork, and perseverance make a lasting impact, contributing to the team's success both on and off the field.

Newcomer of the Year – Female
Presented to an exceptional first-year student athlete at Lindenwood who has made an immediate and significant positive impact on their team throughout their first season as a Lion. This athlete demonstrated remarkable talent, work ethic, and perseverance. Eligible recipients include freshmen, redshirt freshmen, and transfer students.

Presented to a student-athlete who has served as an exemplary representative of Lindenwood University and the Lindenwood Athletic Department. This individual possesses a strong school spirit, personal strength and a strong sense of devotion to not just their team, but to all Lindenwood athletics.

Showstopping Moment
Presented to a team or individual involved in a moment or series of moments judged to be the most remarkable, compelling, or entertaining in a given year. This could be a single play, race, or upset match that stands out as a pivotal or extraordinary moment for Lindenwood Athletics.

Lawson Veit- Archery…After shooting a perfect 600 for 600 at Indoor Nationals in his previous competitions, in order for the team to maximize points, Lawson switched to a completely different discipline and shot barebow at Outdoors and won the Gold medal with a perfect 10 in a one arrow shoot-off.

• Shotgun Sports- The Super Sporting Squad needed an epic performance at the ACUI Championships and they got it, enabling the Lions to defeat Texas A&M by only FIVE targets to win back to back national championships.

• Olympic Weightlifting- Brad Bingham…as a freshman headed into the final events, he needed to get a Personal Record in snatch, Clean & Jerk, AND Total all in one session and he did…enabling the Lions to win back to back national championships

• Roller Hockey- Chase Christopher was given the nod in goal at the NCRHA National Championship game and stopped every shot he faced to give the Lions a 2-0 shutout win over the defending national champions.

• Men's Bowling – They bowled a perfect Baker 300 in the finals to clinch the championship match and win the 16th Annual Lions Classic Tournament in early November.

Coaching Staff of the Year
Presented to the coaching staff that had the best results while overcoming the most obstacles. The coaching staff also exuded leadership and excellence on and off the field of competition to their team and the athletic administration, as well as the entire Lindenwood community.

Presented to the team that has demonstrated outstanding performance, resilience, and unity throughout the season. The recipients have exemplified excellence in competition, teamwork, and sportsmanship while achieving significant success in their sport.

• Winning back-to-back National Champions this year - Olympic Weightlifting

• Winners of the programs 15th National Championship - Cheerleading Advanced Small Coed

• Winners of the programs 16th National Championship - Cheerleading Intermediate Small Coed

• Finishing the season with a record of 37-2, finishing tops in the Central Region, and winners of their FIRST American Collegiate Hockey Association Men's Division II National
Championship - ACHA Men's Ice Hockey

• Finishing the season with a perfect 16-0 record and winnings their 13th NCRA National Championship - Roller Hockey – D1

• Also finishing the season with a perfect record of 18-0 and winning their 18th NCRA Championship - Roller Hockey Gold (AA)
