Women's ACHA ice hockey earned it first victory of the season 4-1 over Grand Valley State University Saturday night at the Hudsonville Ice Arena in Hudsonville, Michigan. The Lakers outshot the Lions 46-25, but Ericha Didocha made 45 saves to help contain the GVSU offense and earn the win in goal.
Graece Fowler started the scoring for Lindenwood off a feed from
Emma Coxworthy at 7:14 of the first. The Lakers answered just over four minutes later to tie the contest 1-1. The Lions took the lead for good when Fowler set up
Devyn Doti for a goal with 3:06 remaining in the period and it was 2-1 at the first intermission.
The middle frame featured two power plays for GVSU and three for Lindenwood, but no pucks found the back of the net, allowing Lindenwood to maintain its advantage.
The Lions continued to cling to the one goal lead while giving the Lakers multiple man advantage chances in the third. After GVSU was called for slashing at 14:25, Lindenwood capitalized when
Gracen Kirklin scored off a pass from
Piper Thomas at 14:34. With a 3-1 lead, the Lions had some breathing room but continued to give the Lakers chances. A slashing call at 15:32 provided one of them, but Lindenwood flipped the script when Kirklin stole the puck and scored a short-handed, unassisted goal to essentially put the game away.
The Lions scored one goal on five power plays while holding the Lakers scoreless on eight, man advantage chances. The victory ended a 33-game winless streak for Lindenwood dating back to the end of the 2024-25 season.
With a record of 1-2 for the 2026-27 season, the Lions will go for the series sweep against Grand Valley State on Sunday with the opening faceoff set for 12:30 p.m. CDT at the Hudsonville Ice Arena.
