Men's rugby ran in ten tries in a 60-7 win over the St. Louis Royal Ramblers on Saturday morning at McNair Park in St. Charles, Missouri. Nicolas Rosselot converted five of the Lions' ten tries, and eight different players found their way to the tryline in the lopsided road win.
How it Happened:
The Ramblers struck first. In the ninth minute, their No. 13 stepped in front of a Lindenwood pass for an interception try, and the conversion made it 7-0. Lindenwood answered in the 17th minute when
Liam Ishizaki broke the line out wide, though the conversion was missed, cutting the deficit to 7-5. The Lions leveled and then took the lead for good three minutes later, as
Eli Law pounced on a loose ball to score, with Rosselot's conversion making it 12-7.
Lindenwood kept building.
Jordan Spencer finished off a counter-attack in the 24th minute, and Rosselot's conversion pushed the margin to 19-7.
Seth Tali crashed over from close range in the 36th minute, and
Braden Wall capped the half by scoring off another counter-attack right at the 40-minute mark, sending the Lions into the locker room ahead 29-7 at halftime after five unanswered tries.
The scoring continued after the break. Ishizaki notched his second try of the day off a loose ball just after the restart, with Rosselot converting to make it 36-7. Lindenwood rotated its bench through the middle of the half, and one of those reserves, Poussy, finished a counter-attack off a chip in the 52nd minute; Rosselot's conversion moved the score to 43-7.
Law added his second try of the match in the 58th minute with a quick tap-and-go, making it 48-7 with the conversion missed.
Kincaid Baxter broke the line off a restart in the 61st minute to extend the lead to 53-7. Reserve
Owen Black closed out the scoring in the 69th minute, finishing a line break off a lineout, and Rosselot's conversion set the final margin at 60-7.
Lindenwood scored ten tries spread across eight different players with both the starting backline and the bench contributing.
"After how the game went last year, we knew this was going to be a physical battle,"said senior fullback
Marcus Robinson. "The boys bought into the game plan, stuck together, and executed it very well. It was a great team effort from start to finish, and overall, just a really enjoyable game of rugby."
"It was encouraging to see our younger players take their opportunities and guys put their hands up in new roles," Head Coach
Josh Macy stated. "These matches help us learn who's ready for more responsibility and give players the confidence to take the next step. To come away with a 60-7 win on the road but in the neighborhood while developing that depth made it a valuable morning for the program."
