Hunter Stadium is one of the busiest places on campus throughout the year. It is the home for Lindenwood football, men’s and women’s soccer, field hockey, and men’s and women’s lacrosse programs. In addition to the six NCAA programs, Hunter Stadium hosts two SLS sports in men’s and women’s rugby.
The stadium was built in 1976 for the St. Louis Cardinals football team to hold their training camp. In 1988 the playing field was upgraded to artificial turf, and received an upgrade to the surface in 1999. After the 2004 season, Hunter Stadium would undergo its biggest renovation, which included end zone seating, a two-story press box with luxury boxes, and a new concession area. Another face-lift to the field occurred in 2009, and in the fall of 2012, the Student-Athlete Center was completed behind the north end zone seating. A new turf field was installed in 2018.
In 2019, Hunter Stadium was the site for the U.S. Open Cup Fourth Round match between Saint Louis FC and the Chicago Fire of MLS and the facility was set to host the 2020 NCAA Division II National Championship festival which includes the National Championship for women's lacrosse. Lindenwood was also awarded as the host site for the 2022 NCAA Division II Women's Lacrosse Championships. Previous national and regional events include multiple NCAA Division II women's lacrosse first and second round tournament games as well as NAIA football playoff games in 2004, 2008, 2009, and 2010 and the NAIA Women’s Soccer National Championships in 2001 and 2002. The facility has also hosted MIAA, RMAC and HAAC post-season tournament games and championships.
The stadium is named after Dr. Harlen C. Hunter who founded the St. Louis Orthopedic Sports Medicine Clinic in Chesterfield in 1979, the first clinic of its kind in the St. Louis area. Hunter was the key to the upgrades of the playing surface in 1988.
