Ryan Shockley is entering his third season in 2015 as an assistant coach for the Lindenwood baseball program and he will be in his seventh season overall in a Lions uniform. He is Lindenwood’s hitting and infield coach, and assists with the team’s recruiting efforts.
Last season, Lindenwood hit .283 as a team and was among the conference leaders in walks. Defensively, the Lions ranked third in the MIAA with 557 assists, and were in the top half of the conference leaders in fielding percentage. Mike Failoni was fourth in the conference in on-base percentage and in the top-15 in batting average. Marshall Vallandingham was among the MIAA's leaders in doubles.
In his first season coaching at Lindenwood, Shockley helped the program have one of the top offenses in the MIAA. The Lions finished third in the league in on-base percentage, fourth in batting average, and fifth in runs. Six players hit over .300 on the season, including Failoni who set a MIAA record with a .500 batting average. Defensively, Lindenwood finished sixth in the conference by turning 32 double plays on the season.
Shockley joined the Lions staff prior to the 2013 season after spending three seasons as the hitting and infield coach, as well as the recruiting coordinator, at Spalding University in Louisville, Ky. During his time at Spalding, the Golden Eagles improved their win total from 11 to 32 in just three seasons culminating as USCAA National Champions in the spring of 2012.
In his final season at Spalding, Shockley helped the hitters rank in the top three in the conference in almost every offensive category. In all three seasons, the Golden Eagles kept a team batting average of over .300 as well as collected 273 stolen bases.
During the summer of 2010, Shockley was named the head coach of the Allegany County Nitros of the NYCBL, leading that team to the West Division Finals, just one game away from the championship series.
Prior to his time at Spalding, Shockley was an assistant coach at Florissant Valley Community College in St. Louis, Mo. in charge of hitting, infielders, and baserunning. That team led the conference in stolen bases and advanced to the Region 16 championship game.
Shockley, a native of O’Fallon, Mo., is no stranger to Lindenwood having played for the Lions for four seasons. He was a starting middle infielder all four seasons and was named first team all-conference and first team all-region his senior year. Shockley was part of teams that won two Heart of America Athletic Conference Championships, a Region V Championship and a Mid-South Super Regional Championship. The 2007 team advanced to the NAIA World Series and finished the season ranked fifth in the country. Shockley finished his career with 257 hits and 80 stolen bases.
Shockley graduated from Lindenwood in 2007 with a bachelor’s of science degree in education. He received his masters of art in education from Lindenwood in 2014.
