The Lindenwood women's lacrosse team went 2-1 at the UC-Santa Barbara Shootout in its first event of the 2011 season. The Lady Lions defeated Santa Clara on Friday night by a 6-5 score, and then knocked off Cal Poly on Saturday by a 7-3 margin. Sunday, Lindenwood lost to UC-Santa Barbara by a 12-10 score.
The win on Friday was the first in program history over a strong Santa Clara program. The Lady Lions led 2-1 at halftime and had a three goal advantage late in the contest. Santa Clara cut it to one with1:40 remaining, but Lindenwood was able to run the final 100 seconds off.
Christine Hehmeyer led the defense by making seven saves in goal. It was the first collegiate game for the freshman keeper. Several over newcomers also contributed offensively, led by
Lexi Crusha with one goal and one assist.
Klaysa Fitzpatrick and
Kara Cashen also scored in their game as a Lady Lion.

Justiene Groothuis had a hand in three goals with two goals and an assist. Kathyrn St. George had the final goal.
Lindenwood got hat tricks from both Crusha and Groothuis in the Cal Poly contest. In rainy weather, Lindenwood won the first half 3-1 and finished the victory off with a 4-2 second half.
The other goal in the contest came from Fitzpatrick. Assists in the game were from
Ana Gullett and Cashen. Hehmeyer had another good day in goal with 10 saves.
Lindenwood led early against UC-Santa Barbara but a 4-0 run helped the home team go ahead for good.
Cashen had three goals while Crusha Groothuis each scored twice. Other goals came from Fitzpatrick, St. George, and
Lindsey Brown. The goal from Brown was her first collegiate tally. Hehmeyer had four saves in the loss.
