Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Balanced Offensive Effort Leads Men's Basketball To Important Road Victory

The Lindenwood men's basketball team used a balanced offensive effort to achieve a big road victory on Saturday. The Lions defeated Lincoln by a 76-67 margin in Jefferson City, Mo.

For the fourth time since Dec. 31, the Lions had to overcome a double-digit deficit to get a victory. Lincoln jumped out to a 15-4 lead, but a 9-0 Lindenwood run helped it get back into the game. The Lions briefly took a first-half lead at 21-10, but Lincoln quickly regained it and led 41-37 at halftime.

Early in the second half, Lindenwood rolled off 13 straight points to take the lead for good. The Lions trailed 52-47, but they hit three straight three-pointers, with two by LJ McIntosh and one by Bakari Triggs. Max Meylor and Chandler Diekvoss both had layups to cap the run. Defensively, the Lions forced two missed shots, two offensive fouls, and one other turnover in that spurt.

Lincoln cut it to two with 7:37 remaining, but Triggs hit a jumper to put the Lions up two possessions again. Neither team scored for nearly two minutes until McIntosh connected on another three-pointer.  The Blue Tigers had one more run, but Diekvoss and Dominique Dobbs helped put the game away with field goals in the paint in the final 2:09.

Both teams shot over 50 percent from the field, but the Lions forced 19 turnovers and had a +8 turnover margin. Lindenwood had 29 points off turnovers, compared to 14 for Lincoln. The Lions also had 12 offensive rebounds and scored 19 second-chance points.

All five Lindenwood starters scored nine or more points. Dobbs led the team with 16 points, followed by McIntosh, Diekvoss and Triggs who all had 14 points. Jackson Price finished with nine points. Dobbs had a double-double after recording 11 rebounds, and he shot seven-of-nine from the field.

Lindenwood had 17 assists, including four each by McIntosh, Diekvoss, and Adam Pohlman. Triggs finished with four steals, one more than McIntosh. McIntosh hit four of the team's seven three-pointers.

The Lions improve to 18-10 on the season and 7-8 in the MIAA. Lindenwood will face Lincoln again on Tuesday night, this time at Hyland Arena at 7:30 p.m.
