Baseball Pours on Runs in 13-5 Victory on Friday

The Lindenwood baseball team (6-1) opened up the weekend with a 13-5 victory over Northwood (1-3) on Friday at Lou Brock Sports Complex in St. Charles, Mo.

GAME OVERVIEW
The Lions fell behind quickly in the first inning, facing a 3-0 deficit after the top half.  Lindenwood answered just as abruptly as Bryce Beckmann led off the home half with a triple down the left field line.  Calvin Nowak had a great day at the dish, which started with an RBI single through the left side of the infield.  Nowak stole second and scored on a single by Schulte to cut the deficit to one run.  The Lions took the lead on a two-run shot by Mitchell Krebs to make it a 4-3 ballgame after just one inning of play.

The Timberwolves tied the game in the top of the third, but Beau Collier put the Lions back on top with an RBI single to bring in Dominic Revetta in the fifth inning.  Nowak continued to give Northwood fits, as the sophomore drew a walk, stole second, and scored on a single by Schulte to give the Lions a two-run lead.  Northwood got one run back in the top of the seventh, but the Lions began to break the game open in the bottom frame.

Nowak gave the Lions a two-run lead again in the bottom of the seventh with a two-RBI double to left center to make it 8-5.  The Lions poured on the runs in the eighth inning, as Alex Canty started the scoring with an RBI triple.  Collier, Logan Rezash, and Jayce Maag hit three-consecutive singles, resulting in two runs scored.  Beckmann drove in a run on a sacrifice fly, while Maag scored on a wild pitch to give the Lions a 13-5 lead.

Brody Roach posted a solid outing on the bump, tossing five complete innings in relief.  Roach struck out three batters, and allowed just one unearned run on one hit.  Lindenwood had 10 players register at least one hit, while four players compiled multiple hits in the victory on Friday.  Nowak set the school record with his four stolen bases in the game.  The previous mark of three was last achieved by Sam Baxter in 2017.
