After a solid win Friday night, men's ACHA Division II hockey settled for a series split after falling to Trine University 3-1 Saturday afternoon at the Thunder Ice Arena in Angola, Indiana.

The Lions were playing from behind from the opening moments after the Thunder scored just 36-seconds into the game to make it 1-0, but that's where things stayed for the rest of the first period and all through the second.

As the third period unfolded, both teams started taking more penalties. Trine took advantage of one of the resulting power plays to build a 2-0 lead with 12:42 remaining in regulation. The Thunder added another power play goal at the 15:56 mark to make it 3-0. Lindenwood broke the shutout in the final seconds when Chase McClellan sounded the horn on play set up by Jack Radley and Josh Linn at 19:13.

Trine outshot the Lions 30-27 and Ethan Paulin-Hatch stopped 27 of the 30 shots he faced for Lindenwood in goal.

With the loss, the Lions fell to 3-1 on the season. They host the Lindenwood Showcase at home October 14-16. The Lions will face Sault College at 2:30 p.m. Friday, Marian University (Wisc.) at 8:30 p.m. Saturday, and Florida Gulf Coast at 3:30 p.m. Sunday with all games taking place at the Centene Community Ice Center in Maryland Heights, Missouri.
