The Lindenwood baseball team (16-37, 9-17 OVC) dropped game two to Eastern Illinois (19-32, 12-14 OVC) by a score of 6-5 on Friday night from Lou Brock Sports Complex
GAME OVERVIEW
Eastern took an early lead after scoring four runs in the top of the first. The score remained 4-0 in favor of the Panthers until the bottom of the sixth. Evan Funkouser drew a leadoff walk and used his legs, including a steal of third. He eventually scored on a sac fly from
Colin Shea, making the score 4-1.
The Panthers responded back with two of their own in the top of the seventh, pushing the score to 6-1. Lindenwood got within four at 6-2 after plating one in the eighth.
Filip Sarota drew a walk and
Mitch Cummins came in to pinch run. Cummins stole second and would eventually score on an RBI groundout from
Logan Stevens.
The Lions escaped a jam in the top of the ninth to keep the score 6-2. Lindenwood kept battling in the bottom half, as a single by
Chase Honeycutt brought home
Bryson Arnette, making it a three-run ballgame at 6-3.
Anthony Stellato kept the line moving with a single, putting two Lions on with one out,
Ambrose Russo came up with a clutch pinch-hit single that brought home Honeycutt. The Lions got within one with a
Kam Edwards RBI single, cutting the deficit to 6-5. The Panthers were able to hang on for the win, escaping the jam with a strikeout to end the game.
