For the fifth time in the last six years, the men's and women's bowling teams are headed to Texas for Sectionals. Competition will take place March 8-9 at Cityview Lanes in Fort Worth and will include 64 baker games over the two days with the top four squads in each division advancing to the Intercollegiate Team Championships (ITC) in mid-April.
The Lady Lions finished the regular season ranked No. 4 in power points and will arrive as the top seeded team at the Fort Worth Sectional. The field of 18 squads also includes Coe College (No. 6), Sacred Heart University (No. 12 NCAA Power Index), William Penn University (No. 13), McKendree University (No. 14 NCAA Power Index), Cumberland University (No. 15), Ottawa (Kan.) University (No. 18), the University of Alabama – Birmingham (No. 19 NCAA Power Index), the University of Central Missouri (No. 29 NCAA Power Index), Culver-Stockton University ( No. 32), Oklahoma Christian (No. 33 NCAA Power Index), Newman University (No. 35 NCAA Power Index), McPherson College (No. 44), Spring Hill College (No. 49), Hastings College (No. 50), Avila University (No. 53), Columbia College (No. 60), and Baker University (No. 67).
The Lions earned the No. 25 spot in the power rankings on the men's side and will be the seventh highest seed in Texas in a field of 19 teams that includes Newman University (No. 6), Oklahoma Christian (No. 8), McKendree (No. 12), Purdue (No. 16), Wichita State (No. 19), Hastings College (No. 24), Grand Canyon University (No. 27), California State – Fresno (No. 29), William Penn (No. 31), Arizona State (No. 38), Coe College (No. 40), Southern Nazarene (No. 42), Ottawa (Kan.) University (No. 44), San Jose State (No. 51), Avila (No. 54), the University of Texas – San Antonio (No. 55), Baker University (No. 66), and Texas A & M (No. 72). Despite their No. 19 ranking, the Shockers are likely considered the top seed as they finished no lower than third in every event they bowled this season, but WSU was not credited with power points in four of the events due to eligibility issues.
In addition to the Fort Worth location, Sectionals will also take place in Addison, Illinois (outside Chicago); Allen Park, Michigan (outside Detroit); and Smyrna, Tennessee (outside Nashville). In addition to team competition, there will also be Singles Sectionals at all four locations on March 7. The top performers over six individual games based on field size at each location (24 total) will advance to the Intercollegiate Singles Championship (ISC). The ISC takes place April 15-16 with the ITC April 17-19 at South Point Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas.
The top 80 eligible men's teams and top 80 eligible women's teams received an invitation to Sectionals. The complete fields for all four team Sectionals are listed below.
