Men's Rugby Head Coach
Josh Macy reached a historic milestone Saturday night, earning the 500
th victory of his collegiate coaching career as the Lions defeated Penn State 71–17 at Hunter Stadium. The win marks a rare benchmark in American collegiate rugby and reflects more than two decades of sustained success for one of the sport's most accomplished coaches. Over his career Macy has tallied an impressive .824 winning percentage.
Macy's teams have become synonymous with consistency at the top of the college game. Across stops at American International College and Lindenwood, his programs have captured multiple national championships, produced All-Americans and professional players, and built a reputation for physical, disciplined rugby.
Saturday's result was fitting for the occasion. The Lions delivered their most explosive attacking performance of the spring, running in tries and pushing the tempo throughout the match to post a season high 71 points.
For Macy, the milestone reflects the players who have come through his programs.
"Five hundred wins really means thousands of players who bought into something bigger than themselves," Macy said after the match. "The standard they set and the brotherhood they created is what made this possible."
Over the years, Macy has coached student-athletes from across the United States and around the world, helping build Lindenwood into one of the premier destinations in American collegiate rugby. The program's reach now extends further than ever, with players regularly progressing to professional leagues and national team pathways.
Despite the milestone, the focus for the Lions remains firmly on the season ahead.
"This program has always been about building the next team and the next leaders," Macy said. "The road goes on forever and the work never ends."
Lindenwood now turns its attention back to the remainder of its spring campaign, continuing the standards that have defined Macy's career and the culture of the Lions program.
