Men's rugby senior David Cathcart was selected by the Seattle Seawolves with the second pick of the second round of the 2026 Major League Rugby (MLR) College Draft Thursday evening.
 
A native of Peebles, Scotland, Cathcart becomes the latest Lindenwood player to make the jump from the Lions to the professional ranks once he finishes his final year in Black and Gold. The 6-foot-1-inch, 200-pound wing has developed into one of the most dangerous finishers in collegiate rugby during his time in St. Charles (Mo.) after arriving at Lindenwood from George Watson's College in Scotland.
 
Cathcart's career has been marked by consistent recognition from the Midwest Rugby Conference. He earned First XV All-Conference honors in 2024, followed by Second XV All-Conference recognition in 2025, before returning to the First Team All-Conference in 2026. His 2026 selection capped a senior season in which his finishing ability and presence on the edge remained a major part of the Lions attack.
 
His impact was also recognized inside the Lindenwood program. Following the 2023-24 season, Cathcart was voted the Lions Breakout Player of the Year by his teammates after emerging as a major contributor during his sophomore campaign. That season included a two-try performance in a 26-0 victory over Mount St. Mary's in the opening round of the D1A playoffs. His progression from breakout player to three-time All-Conference selection and professional draft pick continued a steady rise throughout his time at Lindenwood.
 
The selection also adds to the Lions unmatched record of producing MLR Draft talent. Ahead of the 2026 draft, Major League Rugby credited Lindenwood with more than twenty selections since the draft began in 2020, 10.5 percent of every MLR College Draft pick in league history. That figure ranked first among all collegiate programs, meaning more than one out of every 10 players selected in the history of the draft had come through Lindenwood.
 
Once he graduates in 2027, Cathcart will head to a Seattle organization with one of the most established histories in Major League Rugby. The Seawolves were champions in each of the league's first two seasons and have remained a fixture in the professional rugby landscape since league's inception.
