The No. 12 Lindenwood men's basketball team earned its third victory in 2009-10 over a ranked opponent, defeating No. 19 Columbia College on Saturday by a 77-48 score.
The Lions defeated the 2009 NAIA runner-up with a strong defensive effort, especially in the first 20 minutes. Columbia shot just 25.9 percent from the field in the first-half as the Lions built a 38-17 lead. The Cougars finished the game shooting 35.1 percent from the field and making one-of-seven three-pointers.
Lindenwood shot over 50 percent from the field for the game, including seven-of-11 from three-point range. The Lions also dominated the board, outrebounding Columbia by a 46-29 margin.
Brandon Kunkel had a career-high 21 points to lead the Lions offensively. He was seven-of-eight from the field, including five-of-six from three-point range, and made both free throws he attempted.
The rest of the scoring was balanced, with six other players scoring at least six points.
Toriano Adams had 10,
Alfred Nelson scored nine,
David King and
Joey Parker collected eight apiece,
Tyler Donaldson had seven, and
Richard Rose scored six.
Adams had 11 rebounds for another double-double, Parker had a team-high three assists, and Kunkel recorded two steals.
The game was the final tune-up before conference play begins next week. The Lions will travel to Culver-Stockton and Baker to begin HAAC action.
