The No. 2 Lindenwood men's volleyball team dropped its season opener against Park (Mo.) in five sets Tuesday night. The loss handed the Lions their first home defeat since 2007.
The Pirates quickly won the first two games, but the Lions responded by taking the next two sets to force a decisive fifth game. However, the Pirates would rebound in time to win the match by scores of 30-26, 30-28, 26-30, 23-30, 15-11.
Taylor Morrill led the team with 23 kills and freshman
Tim Huizinga came off the bench to chip in with 12.
Matt Schmack also netted double-digit kills with 11.
Mike Larson recorded 58 assists and
Mike Emerick finished with a team-high 27 digs. Schmack was the leading blocker, with four and
Mike Warren and Larson each had three.
Lindenwood (0-1, 0-1) will host Quincy (Ill.) this Friday at 7 p.m.
