The No. 4 Lindenwood men's basketball team saw its school record 16-game winning streak snapped on Saturday afternoon with a 92-61 loss at No. 18 William Jewell.
The game was tied 9-9 early on but the Cardinals outscored Lindenwood 40-15 for the rest of the first half. The Lions went over seven minutes late in the half without a field goal, and that helped William Jewell turn a 25-20 lead into a 46-22 advantage. Lindenwood's offense woke up in the second half but it still couldn't stop William Jewell as the Cardinals led by as many as 36 points in the final half.
The Lions, who were playing without starting center
Brett Thompson for the third straight game, had their worse defensive effort over the last two years. William Jewell shot over 51 percent from the field, including 12 of 22 from three-point range, turned the ball over just three times, and had 16 offensive rebounds.
The Lions had nine more turnovers in the game and were outrebounded by a 44-27 margin. Lindenwood shot just 44.0 percent from the field, 30.8 percent from three-point range, and 56.5 percent from the free throw line.
The lone Lion in double figures was
Alfred Nelson who scored 15 points on six of 10 shooting.
David King,
Kramer Soderberg, and
Alex Bazzell all had eight points.
Efkan Eren led the team with seven rebounds.
With the loss, Lindenwood and William Jewell are now tied for first in the HAAC standings with a 8-1 records. Lindenwood will return home on Monday evening for a contest against Benedictine.
