Box Score The Lindenwood Lions basketball team played its second overtime game of the season Friday night. This time the Lions fell in the extra frame, 92-82, to Southwest Baptist in Fairbanks, Alaska.
The first half was all Bearcats. Southwest Baptist led the whole first half except twice, when the game was tied. The Bearcats led by as many as 10 in the opening half. But late in the half, Lindenwood started to chip away at the lead.
Darris Smith hit a three-pointer with a minute to play to send the game into the break, with the Lions trailing by just two.
The second half started off well for Lindenwood. The team made its first four-of-five shot attempts in the half to take its first lead of the night. But, the lead did not last long. The Bearcats went on a 15-6 run over a four minute span to extend the lead up to six.
Lindenwood did not go away, chipping away at the lead and then retook the lead again at the eight-minute mark. The Lions extended the lead to five, which was the teams largest of the night.
After Lindenwood looked to be in control, the Bearcats answered the bell and went on an 8-0 run to take a one point lead with just over two minutes to go. Southwest Baptist pushed the lead to two after Ryan Dougherrty hit one of two free throws with eight seconds to play. Trailing by two, the ball went into the hands of
Alex Bazzell, who connected on a layup to tie the score and send the game into overtime.
The overtime period was all Southwest Baptist. The Bearcats hit all eight of their shot attempts and all four free-throw attempts to outscore the Lions by 10 in the extra frame.
Lindenwood shot 45 percent from the field, including 43 percent from behind the arc. The Lions turned the ball over 20 times, and eight assists compared to the Bobcats 20.
Kramer Soderberg led the way for Lindenwood scoring 25 points and also grabbed five rebounds.
Alex Bazzell and
Garrett Reeg scored 16 point each, and each had eight rebounds.
With the loss the Lions fall to 3-1 on the season. Up next Lindenwood will conclude the Alaska Invitational with a game against the host school, Alaska Fairbanks, Saturday night.
