Basketball Team Starts Another Busy Weekend

Storyline
After a long trip to Fairbanks, Alaska the Lindenwood men's basketball team will be back on the road to Ohio for a busy weekend.

First off, will be a road game against the Urbana Knights. After a day off the Lions will travel to Wilberforce, Ohio for the Ben Watterman Classic, hosted by Central States.

To begin the classic, Lindenwood will take on the host school, Central State. The  Lions will conclude the busy weekend with a contest against the Wilberforce Bulldogs.

Last Time Out
Last weekend, the Lions participated in the Alaska Invitational and went 2-1 with wins over Tiffin and Alaska Fairbanks. The loss came to Southwest Baptist in overtime.
 
The Lions started their weekend with a 88-84 win over Tiffin.

Lindenwood shot 44 percent from the field, 72 percent from the free-throw line, but just 28 percent from behind the three-point arc. The Lions outrebounded Tiffin 44-36 and forced 12 turnovers.

Alex Bazzell led the way scoring 25 points including an 11-for-13 night from the charity stripe. Garrett Reeg had his best night of the year, with 14 points and nine rebounds. Cody Sorenson and Richie Thompson pitched in with 10 and 11 points respectively. Efkan Eren led the Lions on the boards with 11.

Game two was the Lions first defeat of the season, falling 92-82 in overtime.

The Lions turned the ball over 20 times, and eight assists compared to the Bobcats 20.
Kramer Soderberg led the way for Lindenwood scoring 25 points and also grabbed five rebounds. Bazzell and Reeg scored 16 point each, and each had eight rebounds.

Lindenwood wrapped up the weekend with an overtime win over Alaska Fairbanks.
Soderberg led Lindenwood in nearly all areas as he had 35 points, six rebounds, three assists, and two steals.

Playing Extra Time
In just five games this season, the Lions have already played in three overtimes games. It is already the most the team has played in the past five years. Lindenwood is 2-1 in overtime.

Soderberg Tearing it Up
Kramer Soderberg has continued his early season success. Earlier in the season, Soderberg was named the McKendree Classic MVP. He was also named to the Alaska Invitational All-Tournament Team. While in Alaska, he averaged over 23 points.

Steady Bazzell
In all of the Lions games this season, Alex Bazzell has scored at least 13 points. He is averaging 17.6 points and his highest scoring night came against Tiffin, when he poured in 25.

Quick Start
The first half has been very kind to the Lions in their first five games. The team is averaging 40 first half points, which is more than five points more than its opponents.

Charity Stripe
The Lions have been frequent visitors to the free-throw line this season. The team is averaging 29 free-throw attempts a game compared to its opponents who are taking just 16.

As a team, Lindenwood is shooting 74 percent from the field. Bazzell is leading the team with 46 attempts and has made 83 percent of his shots.

Road Warriors
The beginning of the 2011-12 season has been spent on the road for the Lions. Through the first five games, Lindenwood has yet to play at home. The Lions have three more road games before finally playing in front of the home crowd. When the team hits the Hyland Arena floor on Dec. 13 it will have played nine road games.

Newcomers
Lindenwood's newcomers have made an early season impact this year. Newcomers Richie Thompson, Tyler Ressell, Cody Sorenson, and Darris Smith are averaging a combined 26.1 points and 10.7 rebounds.

Everybody Pitching In
Every Lion who has played at least one minute has scored at least two points. The only person who has not scored a point this season is Tyler Harris, who has been injured and has not played.

Home Court Advantage
The Hyland Arena floor has been very good to the Lions since Brad Soderberg took over. In his two seasons at the helm, the team has compiled a record of 28-4 at home. In 2009-10 Lindenwood was 13-1, followed by a 15-3 record last season.

About Urbana
Urbana will enter the game against the Lions with a record of 2-3. The team has lost its last games in a row.

As a team the Knights are scoring 86.2 points a game and are surrendering 83 on defense. Urbana is dominating the battle of the boards. Through five games the team is averaging over 10 rebounds more than its opponents.

Leading the way offensively is Ramel Mitchell. He is averaging 14.8 points and three rebounds. Marcus Pearl is second on the team in scoring with 14 a game. Sharif Muhammad Jr. is also scoring in double-figures with 12 and is averaging 6.4 rebounds.

Jeff Porter is the head coach of Urbana and is in his fourth season. He has compiled a record of 27-51 at Urbana.

About Central State
Central State enters the week with a record of 4-1. Before the Lions will take on Central State the team will play two games. The Marauders have won four straight games including a 56-50 win over NCAA Division I, Wright State. Central States only loss came in overtime to Shawnee State.

The Marauders are averaging over 90 points a game and just 80 on defense.

Central State is a junior laden team. The squad has 10 juniors on its roster of 16 players.

Donte Jackson is in his second season as the head coach at Central States.

About Wilberforce
Wilberforce enters the week with a record of 3-5. The team will play two contests before matching up with the Lions.

On offense, the Bulldogs are scoring an average of 67 points a game. But on defenes the team is surrendering 69,

Leading the way on offense is Darius Foster who is scoiring 15.6 points a game. Right behind him is Chris Olafioye who is pouring in 15.1 points. Tremayne Scott is also scoring in double digits at 10.4 a game.

At the helm of Wilberforce is Terry Futrell. He is in his first seaoson as the head coach of the Bulldogs.
