Basketball Set to Take on Two Future MIAA Opponents

Storyline
After having their 13-game winning streak snapped, the Lindenwood Lions will be back in action this week at home. The team will take on a pair of future MIAA opponents in Central Oklahoma and Northeastern State.

The games this week will be the third and fourth home games of a five-game home stand.

Central Oklahoma is first up for the Lions and enter the game with a record of 9-9. To close out the weekend, Northeastern State comes to the Hyland Arena with a mark of 3-14.

Last Time Out
Last weekend, the Lions hosted the second annual Texas Roadhouse Classic. Lindenwood finished the weekend with a record of 1-1.

It started off well for the Lions. On day one of the classic, Lindenwood dominated the Central Christian Saints from the opening tip and won 93-49.

The first half ended with the Lions leading by 30 and then continued the dominant play in the final half. Tyler Ressel led the way for Lindenwood scoring a career-high 19 points, including a five-for-nine night behind the three-point line. Efkan Eren, Kramer Soderberg, and Michael Boos all score 13 points a piece.

To close out the weekend, the Lions had their 13-game winning streak snapped in an overtime loss to Central State.
Lindenwood led the whole first half but in the final 20 minutes Central State took the lead from the Lions. But Lindenwood battled back and tied the score to send the contest into overtime.

The overtime period was back-and-forth until the final two minutes when the Marauders took over and won the game.  
Alex Bazzell led the team in scoring with 20 points. Soderberg chipped in with 17 points and Cody Sorenson scored 16. 

Quick Start
The first half has been very kind to the Lions this season. The team is averaging 45 first-half points, which is more than 13 points than its opponents.

Ressel Scoring
Tyler Ressel has been a huge addition to this year's team. Ressel is averaging 10.1 points off the bench, and is leading the team in free-throw shooting (.926)and three-point percentage (.531).

Charity Stripe
The Lions have been frequent visitors to the free-throw line this season. The team is averaging 25 free-throw attempts a game, compared to its opponents who are taking just 17. The team has made more free throws than its opponents have taken.

There has only been one game this season that team has shot fewer free-throws than its opponents.  
As a team, Lindenwood is shooting 76 percent from the free-throw line. Alex Bazzell is leading the team with 131 attempts.

Dominating the Boards
The Lions have outrebounded their opponents in all but two games this season. The team is averaging over eight rebounds more than its opponent.

Leading at the Half
When Lindenwood has the lead at the half it equals a win. Through 18 games this season, the Lions have held a lead in 14 contests. There has only been one time Lindenwood has not held onto a halftime lead.

Approaching 1,000
In just a year and a half at Lindenwood, Kramer Soderberg is approaching 1,000 career points. As of the team's last game, Soderberg has scored 919 points.

Coaching History
In just two and a half years, Brad Soderberg is moving up the all-time wins list at Lindenwood. Midway through this season, Soderberg has 68 wins as the Lions head coach which ranks him third all-time. He is 15 wins away from becoming the winningest coach in school history.

Playing Extra Time
This season, the Lions have played four overtime games. The team is 2-2 in games decided in overtime.  

Lock Down Defense
The Lindenwood defense has been solid all season. In 12 games this season, the Lions have held opponents under 45 percent shooting.

Consistency
For all 18 games this season, the Lions have used the same starting lineup. The group of Soderberg, Thompson, Bazzell, Reeg, and Eren are scoring 52 points of the team's average of 90.3.

Leading Late
In every game but two this season, the Lions have held a lead with five minutes remaining. The team is 15-1 when leading in the final moments.  

Home Court Advantage
The Hyland Arena floor has been very good to the Lions since Brad Soderberg took over. In his two and half seasons at the helm, the team has compiled a record of 32-5 at home. This season, the team is 4-1.

Up next
After playing its final game of its five-game home stand against Webster, the Lions will travel to Lebanon, Ill to take on McKendree.

About Central Oklahoma
The Central Oklahoma Bronchos enter the game against the Lions with a record of 9-9 and are 3-4 on the road.

The Bronchos are coming off a win over Northeastern State 64-53. Central Oklahoma is giving up 70.3 points a game and are scoring 71.4 on offense. The team is  shooting .455 from the field and .353 from behind the arc.

Brent Friday leads the team in scoring with 13.2 points and is also tops on the team in rebounding with 5.9. Shane Carroll is second on the team with an average of 11.9 points and Tyler Phillips chips in with 11.6.

Terry Evans is in his 10th season at the helm of the men's basketball program.  

About Northeastern State
The Northeastern State Riverhawks enter this week with a record of 3-14. The Riverhawks will take on Pittsburgh State before travelling to St. Charles.

Northeastern is averaging 59.7 points on offense and surrendering 62.2 on defense. The team shoots .417 from the field and .332 from behind the arc. The Riverhawks are outrebounding their opponents 33-32.  

Jon Miller is the team's leading scorer with an average of 12.6 points. Justin Johnson and Ethan Anderson score 8.5 and 8.2 points respectively.

Larry Gipson is one of the winningest coaches in Northeastern State history. Gipson led the Riverhawks to a national championship in 2003. He is in his 16th season as the head coach.
