The Lindenwood men's volleyball team held on Saturday night for a 3-2 road victory over Lees-McRae in Banner Elk, N.C. The Lions won by scores of 25-23, 25-21, 20-25, 26-28, 15-11.
The deciding fifth set went down to the wire with the two teams tied at 11. Lees-McRae helped Lindenwood go ahead 12-11 with a service error.
Scott Siwicki then recorded a key solo block to make the score 13-11. With
Jack Mitchell serving, Lees-McRae then made two unforced hitting errors to give Lindenwood the match.
Lindenwood won despite being outhit in the match. The Lions hit .143 compared to a .194 mark for the Bobcats. Both teams had 50 kills, and the Lions had two more digs and four more service aces. Lees-McRae had a 15-10 advantage in blocks.
Mitchell led Lindenwood with 19 kills and six blocks.
Tim Schmidt paced the squad with 40 assists and
Cory Buehler had a team-high 13 digs.
Michael Adams and
JM Plummer each had nine digs, Siwicki had eight kills and four blocks, and
Logan Jarus had seven kills and four blocks.
Lindenwood improves to 2-0 on the young season. The Lions have their home opener this Wednesday at 7 p.m. against Missouri Baptist.
