Lindenwood Wins Home Opener With A Sweep

The Lindenwood men's volleyball team stayed perfect on the season with a 3-0 victory over Missouri Baptist on Wednesday night at Hyland Arena. The Lions won their home opener by scores of 25-22, 25-16, and 25-15.
 
Lindenwood's offense came alive in the second set as it hit over .500 for the final two sets. The Lions finished the match with a .382 hitting percentage, compared to a .210 mark for Missouri Baptist. Lindenwood had 10 more kills and 13 more digs in the contest. The Lions also had eight aces and just seven service errors, while the Spartans recorded only three aces and 12 service errors.
 
Lindenwood took momentum of the match late in the first set. The two teams were tied at 22 before the Lions scored the final three points. Scott Siwicki started the short run with a kill, and JM Plummer and Siwicki finished the set off with a block.
 
The second set was all Lindenwood after it took an early lead and kept building on it throughout the set. The Lions hit .524 in that set and had an 81 percent sideout percentage. Lindenwood then never trailed in the final set of the evening as it jumped out to a 7-1 lead and eventually led by as many as 11 points.
 
The Lions had a balanced offensive effort led by Jack Mitchell, JM Plummer, and Michael Adams. The trio had a combined 29 kills, led by Mitchell with 11. Plummer hit .571 for the match and Mitchell had a .421 percentage. Scott Siwicki was also in double-figure points with five kills, two service aces, one solo block, and four assisted blocks.
 
Tim Schmidt had a team-high 37 assists and Adams had three service aces. Mitchell and Cory Buehler each had a team-high seven digs.
 
Lindenwood improves to 3-0 on the year and it has now won 14 straight at home. The Lions will look to extend their home winning streak on Friday evening when they host Quincy at 7 p.m.
