The Lindenwood men's basketball team jumped out to an early lead and never looked back cruising to a 78-45 win over the Westminster Blue Jays on Tuesday night in St. Charles, Mo.

The Lions got balanced scoring with four guys scoring in double figures and all five starters scored at least nine points.
Lindenwood's defense started strong, completely shutting down the Westminster offense. The Blue Jays did not get their first points of the game until almost seven minutes into the game.  During that period of time the Lions scored 11 points.
The lead continued to grow in the opening half with the Lions going on three separate runs of 11-2. At the end of the first 20 minutes Lindenwood led 40-14.

Westminster started the second half off much better than it did the first. The Blue Jays scored the first 12-of-18 points to cut the lead to 19. But that was as close as the visitors got as the Lions offense started to hit on all cylinders again.

Lindenwood was led by Cody Sorenson and Alex Bazzell who scored 13 points apiece. Freshman Brandon Marquardt scored a career-high 12 points and Richie Thompson scored 10. Sorenson and Thompson each grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds. Bazzell dished out seven assists while Aaron Ramirz led the team with two blocked shots.

The Lions shot 47 percent from the field while the Blue Jays shot just 23 percent. Lindenwood dominated the glass outrebounding Westminster 58-28.

With the win the Lions improve to 2-0. Lindenwood will go out on the road this weekend for the first time the season when the team travels to Springfield, Ill. to take on Illinois-Springfield.
