Box Score The Lindenwood men's basketball team lost its first game of the season 81-74 to the Quincy Hawks Saturday afternoon in Quincy, Ill.
The game started out well for the Lions. The visitors opened the game with a 15-5 run to lead by 10 just six minutes into the game. The Hawks cut the lead down to four but a quick 6-0 run by Lindenwood extended the lead back up to 10 with eight minutes to play in the first half.
With just over three minutes to go in the first half, Quincy's offense woke up and went on an 18-2 run to close the half and lead by four.
The first 10 minutes of the second half was back-and-forth with the lead changing hands on four separate occasions. But the Lions were able to open up a five point lead at the 10:02 mark but unfortunately for Lindenwood the Hawks countered that lead with a 21-6 run of their own and led by 10. Four points was as close as the Lions would get over the final four minutes of the game and dropped their first game of the season.
Alex Bazzell led the way for Lindenwood scoring 24 points while also dishing out three assists and compiling four steals.
Darris Smith came off the bench to score 13 points and
Brett Thompson chipped in with 10.
Cody Sorenson led the team in rebounds with 10.
The Lions shot 49 percent from the field and 46 percent from behind the arc. Lindenwood outrebounded the Hawks 30-27 but turned the ball over 17 times compared to Quincy's 10.
With the loss the Lions drop to 4-1 on the season. Up next for Lindenwood is the team's first MIAA conference game on Dec. 5 against Northwest Missouri State in Maryville, Mo.
