Box Score The Lindenwood Lions men's basketball team closed out 2012 with a 63-48 win over the Missouri S&T Miners in Rolla, Mo. on Wednesday night.
The Lions offense started off well as the visitors scored the first 10 of the game's 13 points. The Miners did not make their first field goal until the 13 minute mark.
Lindenwood extended its lead up to 21-8 with just under seven minutes to play. From that point on the Miners offense would wake up. The home team went on a 12-4 run to cut the Lions lead to five with just over three minutes to play.
The teams traded baskets in the final moments of the first half and Lindenwood headed into the locker room leading by four.
Cody Sorenson started off the second half with a pair of threes for the Lions and quickly gave the Lindenwood an eight point lead. But the Miners came right back and cut their deficit to one with 16 minutes to play.
The Lions lead would bounce back-and-forth between three and one for the next eight minutes. Then at the eight minute mark Lindenwood went on a 17-6 run close the game and escape with a road win.
Sorenson led the way for the Lions scoring a career-high 18 points while shooting four-for-eight from behind the arc.
Richie Thompson was second on the team with 13 points while he also led the team in rebounds with 10.
Alex Bazzell chipped in with seven points while dishing out a game-high seven assists.
Lindenwood shot 45 percent from the field but just 21 percent from behind the arc. The Lions defense stifled the Miners all night holding them to just 33 percent shooting. Lindenwood won the rebounding battle 42-34.
After the win Lindenwood improves its record to 6-3. The Lions will take a few days off for the holidays and will be back in action on Jan. 2 at home against Webster.
