Lindenwood Wins Set But Falls To NCAA Division I Ball State

For the first time in the series history with NCAA Division I Ball State, the Lindenwood men's volleyball team was able to win a set. The Cardinals, however, still won the match by scores of 25-22, 25-20, 23-25, and 25-13.

The match was the fourth all-time meeting between Lindenwood and Ball State, and the previous three were 3-0 sweeps. This contest appeared headed that way after Ball State won the first two sets.

Lindenwood fought back though and won the third set. The Lions took the lead for good with a 3-0 run to go up 19-17. From there, every point was a sideout as Lindenwood held on for the win. In the fourth set, Ball State completed its victory after recording 13 kills in just 24 hitting attempts.

The big difference in the match was blocking as Ball State had 13.5 team blocks, compared to four for Lindenwood. The Ball State defense also averaged over 11 digs a set and it held Lindenwood to a .140 hitting percentage.

Michael Adams led the team with nine digs, and he also had 10 kills and 10.5 points. Two of Adams' kills were the final two points that Lindenwood scored in the third set. Adams received 39 serves in the match and did not make a single receiving error.

Jack Mitchell had a team-high 15 kills and 15.5 points, Tim Schmidt led the squad with 37 assists, and JM Plummer and Scott Siwicki each led Lindenwood with two blocks.

Lindenwood falls to 6-4 on the season with the loss. The Lions will next play Milwaukee School of Engineering on Saturday and Carthage on Sunday.
