Lions Drop Conference Game at Central Missouri

Box Score The Lindenwood men's basketball team lost its second straight game on Wednesday night. The Lions fell to the Central Missouri Mules 87-72 in Warrensburg, Mo.

Lindenwood started the game in a hole which was dug by the team's shooting. The Lions started the contest one-for-six.  On the contrary, the Mules started the game three-for-five to take an early five-point advantage.

Tyler Ressel ended the Lindenwood drought with a three-pointer to cut the Central Missouri lead to two. After letting the Lions back within two the Mules went on a 15-5 run to push their lead to 12 with 9:45 to play in the first half.

Over the next five minutes of play, the home team's lead went back-and-forth between 12 and nine. But at the 3:29 mark Lindenwood started a 10-1 run that trimmed its deficit to five with just over a minute to play. Central answered the long run with a three-pointer but Richie Thompson connected on a jumper late in the half to cut Central's lead to seven heading into the locker room.

The second half started with the Mules going on a 26-12 run to lead by 20 with 13:41 to go. Even though the Lions were down by 20, the team did not go away. Lindenwood chipped away at the lead and only trailed by nine with 3:07 to go.

Unfortunately, for the Lions nine was as close as they would get. The Mules closed the game making four of their final five shots to hold on for the win. Central Missouri never trailed in the game and snapped a three-game skid.

Lindenwood shot just 34 percent from the field and 32 percent from behind the arc. The Lions won the rebounding battle 40-35 but turned the ball over 16 times compared to the Mules 10.

Alex Bazzell led the team in scoring with 21 points. Brett Thompson and Ressel each chipped in with 10. Cody Sorenson and Brett Thompson led the way on the glass with six rebounds each.

The loss drops Lindenwood to 15-7 overall and 8-6 in conference play. The Lions will close out its home portion of the schedule on Saturday afternoon against Southwest Baptist.
